Osteotomy to correct the deformity of the limbs is one of the oldest orthopaedic procedures in medicine, with the first recorded instance taking place in 1875 on the tibia. It was performed in the past in order to correct deformities of the knee at all levels in both varus valgus, instead today its use is more restricted.

Today it is performed more frequently in external tibial osteotomy to correct varus deformity or as a medial femoral osteotomy to correct valgus deformity.

Different means of synthesis may be used, including staples or a plate and screws; in these cases it is possible to accelerate recovery time due to the greater stability of the wound.

Once the stitches are removed, in-pool rehabilitation (aquatherapy) can begin. After a visit from an orthopaedic specialist and an X-ray, work in our sports physio gym can begin as we build up to loading the joint.

Post-surgical rehabilitation here aims to improve the patient’s independence in daily activities and enable them to run again and resume playing sport.
