Viscosupp- lemention

Viscosupplementation refers to the intra-articular introduction of liquids based on hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in high concentrations in the synovial fluid of joints.

The viscosupplement has a lubricating effect on joints , as well as providing them some mechanical support, the higher the substance’s molecular weight is, the greater these effects. In contrast, by using a different formula with a lower molecular, it will provide nutritional aid for the articular cartilage.

This treatment is useful in a wide spectrum of degenerative joint diseases, ranging from mild chondropathies in young patients to advanced arthritis in the elderly.

All joints can be treated with injections of viscosupplement, but it is particularly effective on large joints that support heavy loads, like the knee.

The cycle of treatment usually consists of weekly administrations for 3-5 consecutive weeks.

Viscosupplementation is an invaluable aid to rehabilitation, helping to reduce the patient’s pain and reduce recovery time.
