Reflexology

Reflexology is a manual technique derived from applied kinesiology. Through precise manual movements this technique can be used to stimulate muscular reflexes, strengthening the muscle and improving extensibility.

This type of massage is most commonly prescribed to stimulate a specific muscle that cannot be reactivated with more conventional methods. The movements used by the rehabilitator provide an external neuromotor stimulus, awakening the muscle.

Reflexology is very effective when used on muscles that have been idle for a long time, or struggles to respond to the patient’s actions.

The effect is achieved through the mechanical action of tendon receptors (Golgi tendons) and muscular receptors (neuromuscular spindles).

The increase in muscle strength is achieved by improving the extensibility of muscle contractions that are shorter than they should be.

Reflexology is particularly effective in treating piriformis syndrome and popliteal.
